World Horse Welfare Sculpture Trail

Nick Skeltons Big Star to feature at Royal Windsor Horse Show 2019

I have been hard at work on a very exciting project in the last few weeks. I am very proud that World Horse Welfare has entrusted me to paint a Big Star sculpture, complete with portraits of the Olympic Gold medal winning pair at Rio and London on either side.

The finished sculptures will be on display at the Royal Windsor Horse Show held on 8 - 12th May 2019 in the grounds of Windsor Castle.

Big Star and Nick Skelton

Big Star was chosen for the sculpture trail to represent the World Horse Welfare's support for the responsible use of horses in sport.

Two portraits of Nick and Big Star feature either side of the sculpture.

On the near side, there is a portrait of the pair jumping the London bus fence at the London 2012 Olympic Games. The sculpture also has Nick Skelton's signature in gold enscribed on Big Star's neck. On his hindquarters, he has the Union Jack shining in bronze.

The offside shows them jumping the brightly coloured Rio 2016 Olympic fence. He displays a quarter mark of the Brazilian flag.

The sculpture has been painted to be as near to the original real life Big Star including his beautiful head of hair and that unmistakable Big Star maxi forelock!

The Trail is great fun for all the family, and each horse has its own story to tell.
